P.E. Kit

For safety and hygiene reasons children must have P.E. clothes to change into. The Infants need shorts and a T-shirt. The juniors also need shorts and a T-shirt for indoor activities plus a jogging or track suit for outdoor activities on colder days.

All children need P.E. shoes (plimsolls and not trainers please). P.E. attire should be brought to school on a Monday and left in school for the rest of the week.

Swimming

Attendance at this lesson is compulsory. If parents wish their child to be excluded for medical reasons they must bring a letter confirming this.

Jewellery

Jewellery should not be worn in school as problems arise when items are lost or broken. Rings, necklaces, chains, bracelets etc., can get caught on equipment during play activities and the child may be hurt as a result. Earrings must not be worn for P.E. and it is unfair to expect young children to cope with the taking out and replacing of earrings before and after a P.E. lesson. The Governing Body have therefore, taken the decision to ban the wearing of earrings or any jewellery in school.

Charging Policy

By law no state school can make a charge for:

* Education wholly or mainly within school hours.

* materials and ingredients for things made in school which pupils or parents do not want to keep.

* visits in or outside of school hours which are necessary for an examination.

Charges may be made for the following:

* Individual music tuition, for example violin lessons.

* Board and lodgings where a school activity involves a residential element.

* The exact cost of 'optional extras' i.e. things not connected directly with the National Curriculum.

In general charges will only ever be made for a school activity if this is the only way to guarantee the event takes place. This is most likely to apply to some trips and excursions. We will always try to assist parents who would have genuine difficulty in making a voluntary contribution.

Meals

School dinners are transported to us from Shotton Hall Infants' School, Peterlee. They are very good value and give children a choice of both dinner and dessert. The money should be sent for these meals on a Monday or the first day of the school week. The cost from September 2000 is £1.30 per day, £6.50 per week. Dinner money should be in an envelope with the child's name and amount written on it. If paying by cheque please make it payable to Durham

County Council with your address on the back of the cheque. Parents who think they qualify for free meals for their children may obtain an application form from the Head Teacher.

School Bank

We operate a school savings scheme which we bank with the Yorkshire Bank on a Monday. Interest is calculated yearly in January. Money can only be withdrawn by the person whose signature opens the account.

Complaints Procedure

If any parent has a complaint please take it to the Head Teacher. If the matter cannot be resolved at Head Teacher level then the Chairman of the Governors or Parish Priest should be approached.

It must be appreciated that this information is correct as at 1st July, 2000, but it must not be assumed that there will be no change affecting the relevant arrangements before the start of, or during, the school year in question.
