Class 9 are currently taking part in the Flat Stanley project, an international project to develop literacy and communication. Parklands Junior School is only one of two British schools taking part.

We started by reading the book 'Flat Stanley' by Jeff Brown, which is about a little boy who wakes up one morning to find that a bulletin board has fallen onto him in the night and he has been flattened. He then has a series of adventures including being posted to visit friends as his father can't afford the air fare.

We each made a  'Stanley' and laminated them, then posted them in pairs, with a letter and a diary to another school. Most of them have gone to the U.S.A, some to Canada, two to Australia and one to the other British school. The Stanleys will be looked after for about a week and then sent back to us, perhaps with souvenirs from the journey. We will also host Stanleys from all over the world, sending them back with souvenirs of England.

Through this project we will be learning about the world and understanding more about how people live in other places, as well as practising our literacy skills in a meaningful way.

The Flat Stanley project will be going on all year, and we will update this site regularly so that we can tell you about Stanleys travels.
