Our nearest town is Eastbourne. About 100 000 people live there.
Langney, where I live,is a suburb of Eastbourne, part of it is in the parish of Westham.. Where my house is built used to be farmland and mushrooms and strawberries grew on my plot. The land was sold for building 12 years ago. There is a shopping centre within walking distance There is a market there every Tuesday and Saturday. At Bank Holidays they have a very big market with lots of people and I know they are popular because people park their cars on grass verges and leave masses of rubbish.
Langney is quite famous for its crematorium as it serves a wide area - Seaford, Eastbourne and Hailsham. It is set in beautiful grounds with places for people to sit and remember. There is also a Garden of Remembrance and a special book to remember people. The flowers are lovely.
Langney has quite a big Sports Centre - they have football for all ages and the senior team is doing quite well in the league I think. (Apr 1998). In the centre is an indoor bowling green . Years ago Friday Street was the main street of Langney and some people can remember when there were hardly any houses, but now there are lots and another field has just been sold for houses. I hope they will stop building too many more because i like to see the countryside too. Tessa S.
