SCHOOL NEWS - 6th November 1998
Staff News
The workload in the school office continues to grow and so
I'm pleased to report the appointment of Mrs. Karen Richardson to
support Mrs. Bennett. We welcome Mrs. Richardson who has
commenced duties and works in the office during the mornings.
Parent, Teacher and Friends Association
At its recent AGM, a new constitution was adopted for what
had previously been called "The Friends' Association".
A new name was agreed as part of the constitution and from now on
the association will be called "Pevensey & Westham
School Parent, Teacher & Friends Association (or
P.A.W.S.P.T.F.A. for short!). Its new committee has already met
and several events are already planned, two of which I refer to
below.
Book Fair
As part of our book week at school we will be having a
book fair. This will be operated by PTFA committee members after
school from Tuesday 17th November to Friday 20th November. There
will be over 300 different titles available, plus stationery and
posters. It's an ideal way to find Christmas presents and help
the school too through the commission we earn on the sales.
Please let friends, neighbours and colleagues know about it as
the school, and therefore the children, will benefit from as many
customers as we can encourage. To help with this there is a
poster available for the children to colour in and publicise the
fair.
Christmas Fair
Please make a note in your diaries that the PTFA Christmas
Fair is to be held on Saturday 5th December. The committee would
like contributions of gifts towards some of the stalls and so it
is proposed that next Friday, 13th November is to be a mufti-day
at school. In exchange for toiletries or a contribution of 50p
the children may wear non-school uniform on that day. This has
proved to be an effective and popular way of helping to fund and
stock the fair in the past and so we hope for your full support
again this year.
The sale of raffle tickets is also a major contributor to the
financial success of the fair and these will be coming home soon
under separate cover. Your support is also sought and appreciated
here too.
Book Character Days
A reminder that our Book Week runs from 16th November -
20th November and that we hope the children will dress up as
their favourite book characters on the following days:-
KS2 - Tuesday 17th November
KS1 - Thursday 19th November
There will be prizes which can be spent at the Book Fair for 1st,
2nd and 3rd places in each class. We are anticipating an exciting
week.
Damaged School Books
If a school book gets damaged whilst at home, parents are
generally anxious to carry out the repair. This is appreciated
but it is better to leave it to us to do as ordinary sellotape
does not make for a durable and long lasting repair and we have
better tapes at school.
35% OFF!
All our classes use a computer word processor called
TextEase. This has many child-friendly features yet can be nearly
as powerful as a full DTP program. It runs on Acorn and Windows
3.1/95/98. You can now buy this for home at a 35% discount - ask
Mr. Ford for full details. Having the same software at home and
at school will have obvious benefits for your child.
Recycling
A reminder that we are collecting used inkjet and laser
cartridges - and get paid for doing so. Many of you must have
access to those in offices - one parent alone has brought in a
huge number already. Please ask your IT support team or whoever
else manages your printers. Thank you.
Poppy Day
Once again we are happy to act as seller for poppies this
week. If you would like to contribute to the appeal through us
please send money along with your child on any day up until
Wednesday 11th November.
Yours sincerely,
P.R. Fleming
