SCHOOL NEWS - 25th NOVEMBER 1998
Dear Parents and Friends,
STAFF NEWS
We welcome both Mrs. Denise Rogers who is covering Mrs.
Thomas' maternity leave and also Mrs. Julia Mitchell who you may
remember as an ancillary in the school a while ago. She returns
as a part-time teacher and will be taking some of our
special needs' groups.
BRITISH LEGION POPPY APPEAL
I have received a note of thanks from the British Legion
for the donations made at school during this year's poppy appeal.
We collected £55.76 towards an area total of £1280.
Well done and thank you.
HOMEWORK QUESTIONNAIRE
Belatedly I thank you for the response to the
questionnaire. 80.3% of the forms were returned and I have now
collated all the responses and analysed all the comments. They
provide a most useful source of parental opinion which, along
with the Government's latest proposals on homework, will
contribute to our approach to this issue. When the details are
finalised you will be sent the information.
HEADLICE
These unwanted visitors continue to be a problem. With
this newsletter is a leaflet provided by the Health Authority and
I urge you to be particularly vigilant and regularly inspect the
whole families' hair. Don't be embarrassed about letting the
school know if you discover a problem - it allows us to alert the
class and everyone is grateful for being told. Everyone's
co-operation is needed if we are to keep the lice at bay.
SOME CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES
Christmas and all the pleasure it brings, is rushing
towards us and I give brief information on some special
occasions. More details will follow separately.
SCHOOL CAROL SERVICE
This has been arranged for Thursday, 3rd December in St.
Mary's Church at 7.30p.m. We hope as many families and friends as
possible will be able to join in this very special service. A
warm welcome is extended to everyone.
CHRISTMAS FAIR
The school's PTFA are holding their Fair between 11.00 and
2.00 on Saturday, 5th December. Do come along and support this
event. Father Christmas has promised to come along and many other
attractions are planned. Have you sold your raffle tickets yet?
If you can sell more, please see Mrs. Gurney.
INFANT NATIVITY PLAY
This year's production is called "Off to
Bethlehem" and rehearsals are well underway. The
performances will be during the afternoon of Wednesday, 9th
December and in the evenings of Thursday, 10th and Friday 11th
December. A separate letter will be going home shortly about
booking tickets.
CHRISTMAS PARTIES
The junior parties will be held on Monday, 14th December
and the infant parties will be on Tuesday, 15th December.
Separate letters, as appropriate, will follow about them.
CHRISTMAS LUNCH
You will know that this is arranged for Wednesday, 16th
December. We still await many replies about this. It will perhaps
be easiest if we can assume that everyone will be having lunch on
this special day unless we hear to the contrary by Friday 27th
November.
END OF TERM
End of term is on Friday, 18th December and school resumes
again on Tuesday, 5th January 1999.
Yours sincerely,
P.R. Fleming
Headteacher
