SCHOOL NEWS
For Parents and Friends,
World Book Day 23rd April 1999
As part of World Book Day on Friday we will be issuing each child
with a Book Token to the value of £1.00. This can be used
towards the purchase of a book or audio book worth £2.95 or
more. It is valid from Friday 23rd April to Monday 3rd May 1999
(inclusive).
We hope that you will encourage and enable the children to use
their vouchers and purchase a book or audio book to enjoy.
Five term year
I hope that all who attended last week's meeting found it
informative and useful. Several parents have asked for details
concerning relevant research and also information on alternatives
to the three and five term years. I now have excerpts from
various documents which I will copy on request. Please ask at the
office.
A sponsored abseil
Julie Humphreys, an ex-parent of the school, is proposing to
abseil down the Grand Hotel, Brighton, in aid of the Imperial
Cancer Research campaign on Saturday 22nd May, and is seeking
sponsorship. I know that the thoughts of many of us have been on
this illness just lately and Julie is giving us the opportunity
to contribute to the work of the charity through her efforts. If
you would like to sponsor her I have some forms in school.
Parking near the school
The beginning and end of the school day are always hectic and
potentially very dangerous on the approaches to school but we can
make them safer. Please do not park on the zig-zag lines or the
bus stop. When crossing the road please use the crossing patrol
and wait for Mrs. Hughes to tell you to cross rather than follow
her into the road.
On behalf of our neighbours I must also ask you not to park in
such a way that drives are blocked, or indeed the access to the
pub car-park. Please show extreme caution, consideration and care
to ensure the safety of all our children.
The school coaches
If your child travels on one of the school buses it is most
important that we have a note whenever you do not want them put
on the bus at the end of the day. It will save us time looking
for a child unnecessarily and enable us to get all the children
out to the coach more promptly.
Junior Choir
Our choir is taking part in an area music festival next week and
letters have gone home to the parents of the children involved.
If other parents would like details in order to attend please ask
for a letter at the office.
Collections - Thank you.
1:Tesco: This offer has now closed. So far we have nearly enough
vouchers for a computer. We are very grateful for all the
vouchers sent in so far - many from local residents who have no
connection with the school. Please send in the final few as soon
as possible.
2:Sainsbury's points: If you haven't yet registered, please fill
in a form and send it to us. All your purchases from 14/3 to
early June will earn us points, whenever you register.
3:Used copier cartridges: We now have enough to order an inkjet
printer. Please keep them coming.
4:Evening Argus: If we collect lots and lots of vouchers we can
send 35 children to Paris for 4 days - with 15 adults (hint!).
Coupons are available from Monday 19th to May 29 and children may
have a Collection Sheet (like a stamp album) to collect them on.
Perhaps colleagues at work, neighbours, etc, would add to your
collection?
......and of course, don't forget Walkers, Pringles, my family,
my Director and Producer, the make up artist, the tea maker,
chief grip, production accountant and everybody else in the
world. We love you all!!!!
Yours sincerely.
