NEWSLETTER - 28th April 1999
Dear Parents and Friends
Slapped Cheek Syndrome
A few children in the school are reported to have this viral
illness. In a separate letter, I refer to advice received from
Doctor Joce who is the consultant in communicable disease
control.
Ofsted Inspection
We still await the final report from the School Inspectors. We
will, of course, forward their summary to all families as soon as
it is received.
School Photographer
The school photographer will be visiting school on Wednesday
morning to take photographs of classes and teams. Please ensure
the children come in uniform and that those who have represented
the school have their PE kit with them.
PTFA News
We are pleased to report that Ellen Crockford has volunteered to
be the Treasurer. Our thanks go to her. A quick reminder that
forthcoming events include Race Night at the Beach Tavern
tomorrow at 8.00 pm. and our Spring Fair on Saturday 22nd May
from 11.00 - 2.00. Please put this date in your diary. Lots of
interesting events and stalls are planned and it promises to be a
grand occasion. More news will follow shortly.
In the meanwhile, the committee would like to reserve this Friday
30th April as a Mufti day to support the preparations for the
Spring Fair. For 50p or the donation of a bottle etc. the
children may come to school in non-uniform items. All proceeds
contribute directly to the education of the children. You will
know that a major campaign this year is to improve the Library.
Redecoration has started (as far as possible as some structural
work is about to be carried out by the County) and storage
facilities have been improved. We plan to computerise the
borrowing system and in other ways enhance this facility.
Clearly, your support for all fund-raising activities is very
much appreciated.
Kosovo
I have been approached by several children who understandably
have been very moved by the plight of refugees from Kosovo. I
have agreed to their request for a Mufti day for this cause. I do
understand that this makes it an expensive time for families but
if children wish to wear Mufti on 7th May for a donation from
their pocket money, I will happily forward the proceeds.
Sovereign Centre Training Pool
Vandalism has meant that the Trainer Pool at the Sovereign Centre
has had to be closed and we have been asked to pass this message
on. It is unlikely to be in operation until Friday 7th May. If
you have any queries regarding swimming lessons there, please
phone the Sovereign Centre Tel. 738822. Please note that the
other pools remain open.
Open Surgery with Willingdon School
Mr. Jungius and Mr. Hitchin from Willingdon School have offered
to come to school at 4.15 on Thursday 6th May to meet parents of
children due to transfer there in September and parents of
younger children who may be thinking about Willingdon as a
possible school for their child in years to come. There will not
be an appointment system and they will be very happy to meet
anyone who comes along.
May Day
A quick reminder that the school is closed on Monday for Bank
Holiday.
