Ethical Bind Rune

Also known as the combat bind rune this rune is concerned with Hamingja. This can be described in many ways, fate, karma, reputation. The one that relates most closely to the concept is reputation. The concept of Hamingja is related to personal reputation in this life, family/community reputation in this life and the continuation of both of these through out a spirits many lives. It does not have anything to do with material possessions or wealth, having or not having either does not effect the Hamingja.

At the top of this bind rune is Thor, the protection rune. The protection from Thor is both from attack and from ourselves, self-deception and complacency. As you move clockwise around the bind rune you progress through the classes and there "responsibilities".

Mann – Trell, self, own life.

Bjork – Karl, community, family

Tyr – Herse, ideals, warrior code

Ur – Jarl, Bloodline, DNA, Future

Rei – Konge, Resistance, defiance, finality

The Konge rune, Rei, needs some explanation to put the concept across. The resistance offered at this level is because you must, that there are no other choices you resist or you cease to be. An example would be the resistance movements in occupied countries during WW II. The resistance had no hope of defeating the occupiers but if they had not resisted then they would have lost their identity. They would rather die fighting that have their will; their sense of self crushed.
