Galdre - Or Do You Crow?
Galdre is many things, none of which is quiet, because all that Galdre means is to crow, to make a noise. In the context of Stav Galdre is chanting and magic. Exactly what you define magic as is up to you, some call it energy, others mumbo jumbo but that is up to you.
One of the most frequent uses of Galdre in Stav is the Galdre stances. There are several variates of this and there is one version of the Galdre for the Karl, Herse, and the Jarl.
In addition to the regular galdre stance work there is also an element of
use of Galdre as a magic. There are two forms of this Licht Galdre and Myrk
Galdre, the translation for this is Light Galdre and Dark or Shadow Galdre.
The meaning of these two forms is not good and bad but seen and unseen. The
Galdre stances fall in to the middle of the Licht and Myrk Galdre, they are done
in the open and not hidden but they are also not generally explained to people
outside the tradition.
Licht Galdre is performed where everyone can see, its
meanings are explained and the process involves the individual you are working
with directly. An example of this is a rune reading as part of a counciling
process. The person sees what runes they have chosen and the rune reader will
explain the meanings of the rune and their interpretations and associations to
try and encourage the person to talk about the problem and work their way to the
solution.
Myrk Galdre is performed where no one can see, if they can see
then they should not understand, nothing is explained, you do not tell them what
you have done or how you are doing it. One of the problems with performing Myrk
Galdre is the amount of knowledge that the recipient of the work has. A rune
master will not be able to be given a rune carving to be used as Myrk Galdre as
they will too easly understand it and this will turn it in to Licht Galdre with
out the other aspects of that art. For a rune master some other way of
disguising the runes must be devised. This may be a different notation form or
perhapts a picture with symbolic elements. The key is that it is hidden from
direct interpretation. The reason behind this is one of understanding, to read
words as you are doing now takes very little effort and therefore energy.
However if I was to write in code then you would have to expend a large amount
of effort and energy to beable to decipher that code. This energy would then be
directed at the problem that the Myrk Galdre was intended to help.
