Notes from Stav Course on 17th June 2000 - With Ivar Hafskjold.

The sequence of the stances for each of the classes is different.
Karl/Trell
The Karl and Trell stances follow the same sequence; the only difference is that the Karl stances are a Galdre sequence.
The sequence is as follows:

Herse
The Herse sequence is as follows

There are also variations in the actual postures for the stances in the Herse sequence, these are:
Hagl - You leave the hands open not in a fist
Is - There is no action you just breath and focus.

Jarl
The Jarl sequence is as follows

There are also variations in the actual postures for the stances in the Jarl sequence, these are:
Hagl - The dominant hand touches the top of the shoulder of the non-dominant arm, and the non-dominant hand in underneath the dominant shoulder, hands open.
Is - There is no action you just breath and focus.
Yr - Same posture but when you go in to the stance you pull you knees in as if you were skiing.

Galdre Stances
The Karl galdre
Breath In
Chant the Rune name going in to the stance
Breath In
Chant the Rune name going out of the stance

The Herse galdre
Example Tyr
Breath In - Chant the Rune name going in to the stance - Breath In
Chant the rune followed by each of the vowel sounds ie - Tu To Te Tar - Hard Breath In
Chant each of the vowel sounds follows by the rune ie - Ut Ot Et Art - Hard Breath In
Chant the Rune name going out of the stance

The exceptions to this sequence are the vowel sounds - Ur, As, Is, and Ar.
In these cases use the following sequence
Breath In - Chant Rune name going in to the stance - Breath In
Chant the Rune vowel sound in the stance - Breath In - Chant Rune name going out of the stance

There is also an exception for Yr, which is a half vowel.
Breath In - Chant the Rune name going in to the stance - Breath In
Chant the rune followed by each of the vowel sounds ie - Yru Yro Yre Yrar
Hard Breath In - Chant the Rune name going out of the stance

The Jarl galdre
The Jarl galdre uses a very different method to all of the other galdre stances as it uses the dieity name associated with the rune. There is only one exception to this and that is for Kreft where no chant is performed and the stance is performed in exactly the same way as the trell stances. The sequence is as follows.
Breath In to stance
Hold the stance and chant the god name
Breath In going out of stance
Breath Out
The chant for this is melodious chant. It follows this pattern

Days of the week
Each of the days of the week are named after one of the gods or a rune. They are:
Mann day - Monday
Tyr's Day - Tuesday
Woden's Day - Wednesday
Thor's Day - Thursday
Frey's Day - Friday
Laug's Day - Saturday - Literally meaning water day
Balder's Day - Sunday

Galdre
Galdre literally means to crow. Galdre is a logical form of magic; men normally practice it. Its flip side is seidr, which is illogical (that is not explainable or teachable) and is normally practiced by women. There are two forms of galdre, light galdre and dark galdre, also called licht galdre and myrk galdre. This does not mean good and bad but seen and unseen.

Licht Galdre
This is where the person you are working on can see what you are doing with the runes and you can use these to help them. A prime example of this is a rune reading to try and help someone with a problem. A rune reading will normally consist of 3 runes, past, present, and future. The rune reader will then try to interpret the runes but in a way that gets the individual talking and analysing their own problems. It would be normal for problems to be resolved in some where between 3 to 6 sessions. If this does not happen then the rune reader may not be able to help them. This can be for many reasons, they do not want to be helped, they are not ready to accept healing, etc.

Myrk Galdre
This is where you use the runes and no one sees, and if they do see then they don't understand what they are seeing. The effect is either from your megin the caster or the person's megin as they try and work out what you have done. Both are putting energy in to fixing a problem even if the person is not aware that it is being done. It can take someone a lot of time and energy to decipher a set of runes carved for them if they have no prior knowledge.
