A GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO
SIR HENRY COOPER SCHOOL

Sir Henry Cooper School opened in 1967 on its present site as a 13-18 Senior High School. Schools in Hull were re-organised in 1988 and as from September of that year, the school has catered for pupils aged 11-16.

The fine series of buildings includes the following: -

Administration and Teaching Block

This comprises 2 classroom suites, one for English and one for Modern Languages, an Information Centre and Language Laboratory. The information Centre is organised on the lines of a small Public Library and is open for reading and borrowing during lunch hours and after school.

Science Block

This comprises seven fully equipped Science laboratories.

CDT Block

This block contains two further fully equipped Science laboratories, a central design area, four multipurpose workshops and a graphics room.

Main Teaching Block

This block contains three classroom suites, one for Mathematics and two for Humanities. The east wing houses four fully equipped Home Economics rooms, two Textiles rooms, four Art rooms, in one of which there is a kiln.

Assembly Hall

This provides facilities for dramatic and orchestral performances - the venue for our excellent school productions.

Physical Education

We have a Sports Hall, two gymnasia, tennis courts, and netball courts. Our outdoor facilities can be floodlit.

The School's Sports' Day now takes place at Costello Athletics Stadium.

Year Blocks

These are five in number, and are built to an identical design with two classrooms, games' areas, staffrooms and a large dining/assembly area. Lunches are served in three of the Blocks.

Support Services Block

This building provides a variety of accommodation including a Lecture Theatre and Resource Centre and a Careers Library.

Information Technology

The school has four fully equipped computer suites. Two contain networked 186 Nimbus computers, one has 486 PCs and the latest addition is a system of multimedia Pentium computers.
