Year 7 pupils at Sir Henry Cooper are allocated 2 sessions each week for the study of Technology. The programme of study in technology will, through the use of problem solving situations, cover a wide range of skills and materials including graphics, textiles, food, wood, metal, plastics. The emphasis of the courses undertaken is one of practical outcomes to problems with written work playing an important but not dominant role.
Homework is seen as essential in that it allows parental involvement and can greatly enhance the learning process by exploiting resources not available in school and by adding greatly to the time involved in this area. It also encourages pupils to take A more responsible attitude towards their own learning needs.
The primary schools will have played an important part in developing scientific and technological understanding. The practical opportunities open to students on arrival at Sir Henry Cooper are immense. The practical facilities available cannot fail to impress, it simply requires a positive and open and creative mind to make the best use of what is available.
Assessment takes place at the end of each project and also on a termly basis, when we look at personal and social skills as well as the subject specific skills. All pupils will experience work in food, textiles, structures and mechanisms, graphics and construction.
