Charges For School Activities

In the light of the provision contained in the Education Reform Bill, the school is obliged to make the following statement concerning the charges for school activities.

It is the school's and the Education Committee's policy that a charge should be made for board and lodging arising from residential activities. It is a statutory requirement that charges must be remitted in respect of pupils whose parents are in receipt of Income Support or Family Credit where the activity is deemed to take place in school hours, or, if it is out of school hours, is organised to fulfil any requirements specified in the syllabus for a prescribed public examination or specifically to fulfil statutory duties relating to the National Curriculum or to religious education.

A charge will continue to be made for board and lodging in respect of pupils attending the Authority's own Outdoor Pursuits and Field Study centres with charges being remitted in full for those pupils who are eligible to receive education welfare benefits.

From the beginning of the academic year 1997/98, a charge of £25.00 per pupil per term will be made for those pupils receiving peripatetic strings or brass tuition.

From time to time parents will be invited to make voluntary contributions to finance school activities such as trips. It should be clearly understood that such contributions are indeed voluntary and the pupils are not treated differently depending on whether or not their parents have contributed.
