PEEL PARK C.P. SCHOOL

SCHOOL RULES AND REGULATIONS

These concern the safety of the pupils and the good running of the school.

Behaviour inside and outside the school is expected to be of the highest standard. Of particular concern outside the school is the behaviour of pupils on the school buses. For their own safety, pupils must always remain seated whilst the vehicle is in motion.

Pupils who do not complete a given allocation of work in class time may be required to stay in school during break time to complete this. Older pupils may also be required to take outstanding work home for completion. parents are requested to co-operate with this policy.

Pupils misbehaving in school may be required to stay in during break and lunchtimes. Older pupils falling into this category may be required to undertake some form of written task.

In matters concerned with the discipline of the pupils, parents will be contacted whenever there is a serious cause for concern and their co-operation will be very much appreciated on such occasions.

Pupils behaving badly in the dining hall will be admonished, but parents of pupils who persistently misbehave will be asked to make other arrangements for their child's lunch break.

Pupils who stay for a school lunch or bring a packed lunch are not allowed to leave the premises at lunchtime.

Fighting, bullying and a lack of respect for any adult associated with the school, or any form of authority, will not be tolerated.

Running is not allowed in school.

Electronic toys, radios and personal stereos are not allowed in school. Similarly, certain other toys considered to be dangerous or inappropriate will be forbidden.

Pupils are not allowed to swop, buy or deal in personal possessions in school.

Chewing gum is not allowed in school.

Pupils' hairstyles should be tidy and reasonable. Long hair should be tied back with a ribbon or an elastic band.

Parents are requested to pay particular regard to the cleanliness of their child's hair. From time to time, individual pupils do become infested with head lice and such cases are always treated sympathetically. However, the school reserves the right to exclude pupils who are considered to be persistently infecting other pupils until such a time as parents can demonstrate that effective treatment has been carried out.

The school supports the Lancashire Education Authority's policy of education for all in a pluralist society and endeavours to foster AN atmosphere of racial harmony.

Sex education does not form a part of the secular curriculum of the school. In the opinion of the school's governing body, this is a subject which is best dealt with at a later age. However, as part of the school's health education programme, year 6 girls and boys are given annual talks on the onset of puberty and its associated implications. These talks are usually given by a member of staff from the school clinic and prior written notice is always given to parents so that they can request the withdrawal of their child from these classes if they so desire.

A copy of the LEA's statement of its policy on the secular curriculum is available for inspection in school.

Individual records are kept on each pupil in the school and parents receive an annual written report on their child's progress.

Whilst it is no longer the policy of the Schools' Clinic to conduct cleanliness inspections of pupils' hair on demand, specialist advice on hair care can be obtained from the clinic at Hyndburn Locality Offices at Accrington Victoria Hospital at any time, but particularly between 4.00 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. each evening. Please get in touch with them (Tel: 381541) if you need any advice concerning treatment or the supply and use of lotions and so on. Lisa Hartley, the school nurse is usually in school one day per week.

Jewellery (other than watches and ear keepers or studs, as outlined below) is not allowed in school.

Pupils with pierced ears are allowed to wear keepers or studs only. Decorative earrings are not allowed.

It is a County Council regulation that all jewellery, including ear keepers and studs must be removed for swimming lessons. Staff cannot be held responsible for the removal or insertion of such items prior to swimming or P.E. lessons. During swimming lessons, the wearing of goggles is forbidden unless under the direct orders of the child's doctor or Schools' Medical Officer.

Nail varnish is prohibited.

Jeans, tracksuits, leisure suits and other sportswear are not considered to be suitable attire for classroom lessons. Notes on school uniform appear later.

Pupils are required to wear reasonable footwear. Trainers and pumps are NOT considered suitable for normal wear.

In very wet weather or snowy conditions, pupils who come to school in wellingtons will be required to change into appropriate footwear for classroom use.

In cases of absence, a letter must be sent or a telephone call made to school to explain the absence. Otherwise, the absence will be recorded as "unauthorised".

Medicines can only be administered to pupils on receipt of a WRITTEN request from parents. The parents of pupils with complex requirements for the administration of medication should see the Headteacher in order to discuss these requirements.

The fenced-off car park at the Coppice Avenue (Turkey Street) side of the school is reserved exclusively for delivery and staff vehicles and THERE IS NO ADMITTANCE FOR PUPILS, PEDESTRIANS OR PARENTS' CARS.

Access to school is either through the Manor Street entrance or across the seniors' playground from Alice Street and through the connecting gate into the infants' playground (infants), or via the respective juniors' playgrounds fronting onto Alice Street (juniors). After the start of the morning session, these doors will be locked to the outside and all visitors should enter the school via the school's MAIN ENTRANCE.

The school's MAIN ENTRANCE is at the top end of the seniors' (older pupils') playground via the door marked "GIRLS". Immediately inside that door is the school's general office and reception area.
