Admissions policy and catchment area

Pennington County Infant School is a non-denominational infant school, catering for girls and boys from four to seven years of age.
The school has an admission limit of 60 places.  This means that the school can admit up to this number of children to the Reception Class.
The governors will consider admission applications in accordance with the admissions policy of Hampshire County Council.  Responsibility for implementing the policy, and making decisions about admissions to the school rests with the governors.

Catchment Area

Our catchment area is Pennington and Lower Pennington, north to Sway Road (southside), south to the Solent (Lower Pennington), east to the stream which flows from Sway Road to the bottom of Stanford Hill and then down Ridgeway Lane.  We also include Belmore Estate, Forest Vale and west to Avon Water, the stream that runs under Wainsford Road.
Priority of admission will be given to children within the school’s catchment are.  A detailed map and admission policy can be obtained from the school office.

Admission arrangements for Reception pupils

All children start school in September on a full-time or part-time basis, commencing the academic year in which they are 5 (1 September to 31 August).  Parents have to apply to their preferred school by the County deadline (at present 28th January) even if they live in the school catchment area.  Places are not automatically allocated to catchment children if numbers exceed places available.

Year R children must be admitted to the school by the end of September in the school year in which the child has his or her fifth birthday.

Children born between 1st September and 31st March will be admitted full time at the beginning of the Autumn term.

Children born between 1st April and 31st August will be admitted for five morning sessions during September and will be offered a full time place by the end of September.
