Mayflower High's ICT department consists of two full time specialist ICT teachers. We are a small, enthusiastic team, achieving good results at all levels.
At key stage 3, ICT follows the National Curriculum scheme of work. This is taught in one lesson per week in years 7 and 8. In year 9 ICT is taught as part of the Citizenship scheme of work. In addition to this the use of ICT is encouraged in all other curriculum subjects throughout the school.
At key stage 4, pupils are offered the option to take ICT GCSE, which is currently following the OCR syllabus. In addition all students will partake in one period per week of core ICT during year 11. The core syllabus follows the European Computer Driving License (ECDL), for which Mayflower is an accredited test centre.
National Curriculum ICT is delivered through a Scheme of Work following the National Strategy framework units in Years 7 and 8, which is delivered in one session per week. In Year 9, ICT is delivered as part of the Citizenship course. In Year 10 students can opt to study full course GCSE (OCR syllabus).
The AQA ‘A’ level Information Technology examination is offered to Years 12 and 13. There is a healthy uptake in both year groups. All other sixth formers are encouraged to use ICT wherever possible to enhance their studies across all subjects.
Overall the students have excellent opportunities to use computers to enhance their work and the staff are committed to using ICT as a tool.
