Mission Statement
"To create a happy, stable and supportive environment in which each child develops personal, social and academic skills through a flexible and imaginative approach to a structured programme which meets their individual needs"
Whilst all pupils have learning difficulties, the school is able to specialise in visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech and language difficulties, communication disorders, many physical disabilities and a range of profound, significant and complex needs.
Throughout the Primary phase , we adopt a broad based topic based approach to the curriculum.

Structured activities and creative play enable the children to acquire and consolidate the basic skills, attitudes and concepts necessary for them to operate as independently as possible in both learning and life skills situations
During the Secondary phase, pupils continue to follow the National Curriculum and a vocational pathway through the Youth Award Scheme which culminates with a presentation of the National Record of Achievement.
Time spent on work experience placements, community service projects, Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and college link programmes help to provide pupils with opportunities to develop their independence and responsibility in order that they may strive towards living their life to the full on leaving Portfield school.
Post 16 students are able to access Supported Vocational Courses at nearby Pembrokeshire College.
Parents and Carers
Parents are regarded very much as partners and there is a strong emphasis on home to school liaison throughout the entire age based on an open door policy. An active Parent Support Group and Friends of Portfield School Commitee have borne witness to these close links.
