Fenris was born to a wealthy merchant family in Waterdeep on 8 Kythorn in 1348DR (The Year of the Spur). He was a serene child, obedient, loyal and extremely polite. He was set for a promising career in commerce until he became embroiled in the chaos wrought by Myrkul's demons during the Time of Troubles.

A fireball (magically enhanced by the instability in the weave caused by Mystra's passing) which was cast by a Waterdhavian war wizard destroyed his family and property, besieged by a demon horde. Fenris has yet to discover the identity of this mage.

Scorched and terrified Fenris survived and, like many others, he sought refuge in the garrison near the peak of Mount Waterdeep. It was here that he witnessed the manifestation of Helm on the Celestial Stairway. He also saw the deification of Cyric and Midnight by Ao, the Overpower.

Witnessing the power of a god at first hand had an enormous effect on young Fenris so he sought out the temple of Helm and began his training as a cleric immediately. The persecution of the Church of Helm that followed the Time of Troubles resulted in the closure of the Watcher's temple in Waterdeep and a gradual drift of the clergy southwards. Fenris greatly impressed his superiors with both his physical prowess and charm. As such he was selected for the most high honour of being trained as a Paladin.

It was deemed necessary to send Fenris to Procampur to complete his training (that being the only large Temple Complex left open to the Helmite faith. It was during this journey (with a caravan recently returned from their expedition to the True World of Maztica) that Fenris met Killian Silverleaf. Killian had taken his orders recently and was a novice under the tutelage of Bishou Telleran. Killian too was keen on following a more martial kind of training but had not the temperament for the rigours of Paladinhood. Killian was therefore to be trained as a warrior missionary. The two became close friends and spent several years at Procampur together.

Fenris thinks back with sadness at those times. They seemed hard at the time but the coloured roofs, according to the ward gave a comforting sense of order to the city and life in general.

Killian had left the Temple some months previously to try his hand at converting lost souls and was heading back to the North when news of him ceased (he wrote regularly to his superiors, reporting his progress). He was last reported to be in the vicinity of Shadowdale with a company of adventurers that he called The Righteous Fist (with some amusement). Concerned for his protégé Bishou Telleran despatched Fenris to find out what had become of his friend.

Fenris made his way to Shadowdale only to find that the Fist had travelled to Surd on a mission from Elminster. Tracking them on foot Fenris then followed their trail to Tulbheg. He had been watching the antics of an extremely young Tymoran Cleric. This adolescent, grinning like a maniac and clutching at two silver discs (obviously holy symbols of Tymora) rushed into the Inn in the town. Fenris, his curiousity piqued followed the lad and found the adventuring band he had been seeking. After a brief introduction he learned that Killian had been slain. Before he could enquire further as to the circumstances of Killian's death he became embroiled in an adventure. It became increasingly likely as time wore on that his first taste of danger might well be his last.
