The challenge for everyone involved in QE400 is to raise £400,000:
£1,000 for each year of the school's life.
What is the money for?
£150,000 for the Science Department to provide rooms and equipment fit for the demands of teaching now and in the future and to create a stimulating environment for enquiring young minds. Major projects include-
- The complete refurbishment of five laboratories
- Developing major IT capability with white board technology and video conferencing
- Raising the profile of Science throughout QEHS and the community by involvement with local business and research institutions
- Reviewing the opportunities offered within the department at 16 plus
- Preparing students for a process of lifelong learning
£150,000 for the ICT department to provide the best possible equipment throughout QEHS, its partnership and community. Major themes include-
- Improving technology for the Music department and expanding its use to both special and middle schools
- Extending existing networks for the Business Studies and GNVQ Departments, expanding facilities in Design and Food Technology
- Creating an IT and Maths Computer room, designed for now and for future needs
- Supporting development plans for the Art department by replacing and improving existing Apple Mackintosh systems
- Developing the Internet provision needed for QEHS and the community
- Development of ICT throughout the Hexham Partnership of Schools, connecting them together with the latest electronic systems helping to prepare all children in our area for the future.
£50,000 to research and develop an open door policy for QEHS allowing the whole community access to school facilities.
£50,000 for QEHS and the community to celebrate 400 years of education in Hexham. A year long festival which will bring together all school disciplines and the aspirations of community and volunteer groups.
What your money can do.
£40,000 will
- completely refurbish a science laboratory
- equip a computer based science laboratory, powered by solar power
- equip QEHS and partnership schools with the latest communications technology
- extend the existing computer network to Business Studies, Music and Design Technology
- meet most of our 'open door' plans to extend access to more of our community
- provide a computer laboratory to allow a full class of 30 students to have a computer each
£4,000 will
- rewire, repaint a science laboratory and provide new furniture.
- buy a satellite based weather information display
- buy a basic microwave data link to connect sensors in the walled garden to the main school
- buy a fully operational graphics work station for the art department
- modify an entrance for improved access
£400 will
- buy a data logger for use in studying the natural environment
- buy the latest interface to monitor an experiment on a computer
- buy the latest version of a software package for use in music, art, business studies or design technology
- buy a music keyboard to connect to a computer
- buy several copies of CD-Roms for use in science, geography or history
- refurbish the benches in a science laboratory
- improve our Internet access with an ISDN line and equipment
- train a technician on an aspect of computer system support
£40 will
- contribute to the cost of one of the above
