BBC Young Musician of the Year stars in huge QE400 concert.
Adrian Spillet played along with QEHS percussionists, two pianists, QEHS choir, a choir of 3 Middle Schools and several soloists, in two amazing concerts for QE400. The programme contained a world premiere of "Spes Durat Avorum" composed especially for this performance by QEHS Head of Music Len Young, an amazing solo percussion performance by Adrian and a very impressive performance of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, accompanied by dancers from 9 First Schools. Anniversary date draws hundreds to QEHS
On the 29th June, exactly 400 years since the charter was granted, more than 500 guests attended a special celebration service in Hexham Abbey. The service was a mixture of readings and music spanning the last 400 years, including 2 movements of Vivaldi Gloria and a reading from the Charter by Queen Elizabeth I (played by Lynsey Muir - see photo).

QE Headteacher runs for 400 years.

Resplendent in Elizabethan doublet and hose, Hexham's Queen Elizabeth High School Headteacher Tony Webster was up at 4am on Midsummer's Day to start a 12-hour 400 metres relay marathon at Hexham's Wentworth track.
400 people each ran 400 metres around the track as part of the celebrations to mark the 400th anniversary, hopefully raising some sponsor money to help with the appeal.
