1999 is a special year: exactly 400 years ago Queen Elizabeth I established a grammar school in Hexham because of the citizens' "outstanding eagerness to promote good learning". Today, Queen Elizabeth High School is a thriving community school seeking to cherish and develop the 400 year legacy of its Royal Charter. QE400 is a special and distinctive project: it is both a celebration of the journey so far and the agent of a new beginning. QE400 invites the involvement of the community and the support of all past students, staff and friends in creating a model for community education for the 21st century. QE400 will span the two Elizabethan ages. Young people will be at its heart as we aim to reawaken the Renaissance spirit that moved our founders four hundred years ago.
Our target is to raise £400 000, £1 000 for each year of the school's life, through sponsorship, public funding, fund raising events and this appeal. The capital investment this sum represents is needed urgently. Neither the school's budget nor the local authority can meet this need. |
