Floods

On Friday 14th March 1947 the Thames flooded. 1600 houses were affected, many had water coming in to the ground floor rooms. It was difficult to move around, especially into Reading as both of the bridges under the railway were deeply flooded. A ferry service was used to get to Caversham. It was a week before the river went down, and 200 families had to live in temporary rooms for some time as their houses were damaged.
