| Age
of Buildings and Land Use
These pages link with the data collected over 25 years of using the
Reading History Trail. Data has been collected on the Land Use and
the Age of Buildings in Central Reading and the results of the 1980
survey can be found on Infomapper.
Age of Buildings
is in four age groups, all of which are approximate:
Land Use is in seven
groups. Where there is mixed use the most obvious use has been noted.
The groups are
- Houses: Buildings
where people live.
- Shops: Where
things are bought and sold: this includes cafe's and pubs.
- Office: Where
people organise things.
- Factories (and
warehouses): Where things are made and stored.
- Transport: Land
used for the movement of people or goods.
- Open
Space: Parks
and land not used for any of the other purposes.
- Public
Buildings: Buildings owned by everyone, such as schools, council offices,
prisons, places of worship
