Age of Buildings: Modern

Most buildings in Reading have been built in the last 100 years. Unlike other periods of history, the last century has seen people copying many different styles of building. For many years, concrete was used on both the outside and the inside of buildings. Now, brick work, and even patterned brickwork is used.

What to look for

  • Brick or brick and concrete built.
  • Machine made tile roofs- all the tiles are exactly the same.
  • Windows usually open outwards and are landscape shaped.
  • If patterned brickwork used, usually in rows.
  • No chimneys.

Examples

  • Town Houses: Katesgrove Lane
  • Large shop: Kenavon Drive
  • Office Block: King's Road
