Kendrick Schools

In 1877 two schools were opened with the small part of John Kendrick’s money that remained in Reading. The boys’s school was in Queen’s Road, the Girls in Watlington House built in 1699 by a clothier named Samuel Watlington in the street that bears his name. The boy’s school merged with Reading School during the first world war, while the girls school moved to its present site on the corner of London Road and Sidmouth Street in 1927.
