Oxford University
at Reading
In 1355 Oxford University was in turmoil. There were riots in the town
between the students and the townspeople. This became so bad that the
Grey Friars, who ran the university,
decided to move to their brother monks in Reading. So the University
moved from Oxford to Reading, and wished to stay. The people of Reading
were not interested however, and within a few years the university moved
back to Oxford.
