Greyfriars

The church of the Grey Friars had been used as a bridewell or house of correction since the dissolution of the monasteries. The side aisles of the church were roughly made into cells, while the centre of the church was open to the sky. There was no kitchen and no washing water, little air and no light entered the cells.
