The Hole

The Hole or Churchwardens Pew was in the south wall of St Lawrence’s church. It was part of Blagrave’s Piazza and gets is name when an eighteenth century churchwarden was found to be drunk and locked up in the hole. Next to the hole were kept the stocks, ducking stool and pillory, which were the responsibility of the head constable who lived across the road.
