The Market Hall and Arcade

A new Market Hall was opened just off Market Place in the early Victorian . A corn market was not built until 1854 just to the west of Market Place, where the Market Arcade is now situated. This was later replaced by the Victorian Market Arcade built by Councillor Fidler in the 1890’s. During the Second World Wat this was damaged by bombs and rebuilt as a shopping arcade between 1957 and 1963.
