Hospitium

In 1560 the Council asked if they could find a new Town Hall, and the
Queen agreed. The Council now move to the upper storey of the abbey
hospitium. Again the council shared the building, as the lower storey
was used for Reading School since 1486. Although this Town Hall was
in use for about 200 years, it was far from being a good site. The room
was cut in half by a row of large pillars, and used as a courtroom at
times.
