Yield Hall

The first place where a council met in Reading was the Yield (Guild) Hall. This was near High Bridge and records show that it was in use by 1420. Unfortunately it was not ideal, as it was right next to where the women of the town washed their clothes. The noise from this disturbed the men of the town as they tried to make decisions. The last part of Yield Hall was knocked down in 1920.
