Buses

The first Reading Corporation Buses began running in 1919 between Caversham Heights and Tilehurst. via Tilehurst Road and Waverley Road (The Meadway was not to be built for another 30 years).

In 1926 a new bus service was started between the Oxford Road tram terminus and the Roebuck, just beyond Tilehurst station. In 1927 this was extended through to the town centre, but on the same route as the Tilehurst service, so that it did not compete with the trams. Finally, in 1928 this service was routed down the Oxford Road, but with fares that were the same as the trams. The first closed top double deck bus was bought in 1929.
