The Preterite tense is used to say what you did.

 

I went to Spain on holiday

I sunbathed on the beach

I swam in the sea

 

To form the Preterite tense, remove the –AR / -ER / -IR to get to the stem, then add the following endings:

 

HABLAR                COMER                 VIVIR

Hablé                    Comí                      Viví

Hablaste               Comiste                 Viviste

Habló                    Comió                     Vivió

Hablamos              Comimos                 Vivimos

Hablasteis             Comisteis               Vivisteis

Hablaron               Comieron                Vivieron
