During Health Week we aimed to promote healthy eating. Each class chose a fruit, vegetable or any other item of fresh food to research as to nutritional value, cost, seasonal availability and country of origin.
A visit from Paul Hand from 'Bees and Trees' made an exciting and interesting start to the week. Paul lives a truly sustainable lifestyle and amazed everyone by describing a huge variety of English Apples and Pears.
The children were allowed to taste pollen and real honey collected from his hives. Before he left he planted an old English fruit tree, the Tettenhall Dick Pear with a group of children. Many similar trees are being planted in the Midlands as part of a Millennium Project.
During the week we all became aware of the vast quantity of imported goods in our local shops and supermarkets and the associated costs.
