What is Global express?
Do your pupils ask you about what they see and
hear on the news? Do you want ideas for how to tackle important
issues in class while they are still current in the media? Global
express brings you information and teaching ideas on
important world development issues.
Global express is a rapid response information series
for schools on development issues in the news, produced by the
Development Education Project and the Panos Institute. It aims to
enable young people to gain a greater understanding of the
context in which news stories from the developing world happen,
and to build links between their experience of life in the UK and
their understanding of development issues.
The 8-page editions of Global express are available on
subscription for teachers in the UK or elsewhere. This web site
is designed to promote Global express and to provide
online activities for teachers to use in the classroom.
Jon Snow, presenter of Channel Four News has said of Global
express, "This series is a great advance and will really
help children who keep glimpsing events on their televisions make
sense of the world about them, as well as contributing to a core
element of their education. I think it's absolutely
brilliant."
