The Mosque at Mopti

This is a mosque, a holy building for people who are muslims. The Mosque is made of mud and wood. It is in the town of Mopti, near to the river Niger.

Because the rainy season has just finished, the river is full and the plants are green and growing.

The rain all comes at one time of year. The rest of the year the weather is very dry. The earth will dry out and crack, the plants will die back and people will be able to walk over to the town.

The house at the front of the picture belongs to the family who run the ferry boat. The boat leaves from here to take people to the main town.
