SCHOOL POLICIES

A number of written policy statements have been drawn up by the Headteacher and Governors of the school to (a) ensure the efficient running of the school, and (b) to satisfy certain legal requirements of the Education Reform Act. A list of these policies is available from the headteacher and is published in the School Development Plan.

UNDER SECTION 110 OF THE EDUCATION REFORM ACT THE GOVERNING BODY OF ALL SCHOOLS HAS TO CONSIDER AND DRAW UP A POLICY FOR MAKING CHARGES TO PARENTS FOR ACTIVITIES PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL.

At Woodside we provide a number of extra-curricular activities and educational visits. From time to time parents may be asked to make a voluntary contribution towards covering the cost of such activities. No child will be excluded from any educational activity as a result of his/her parents inability or unwillingness to pay towards the cost. However, if the cost is prohibitive and cannot be covered with the help of parents voluntary contributions this may lead to cancellation of the activity for the whole group. Taking part in these activities and visits is not voluntary as they form part of this school’s curriculum.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND COLLECTIVE WORSHIP

The governing body has drawn up the following statement concerning the religious education provided by the school.

"Religious education is provided as part of the basic curriculum for all pupils. The teaching will be in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus. This reflects the fact that the religious traditions in the country are in the main Christian, but we shall try to foster a balanced knowledge of and respect for other religions.

Whether within school assemblies or in class groups, the daily collective act of worship will be of a broadly Christian character.

We hope that all children will participate in this area of their development. However, it is recognised that parents retain the right to request that their child be withdrawn from attending religious education or worship.
