PARENTAL PARTICIPATION IN SCHOOL

At Woodside we try to cultivate a very close relationship between the home and the school.

During the week we have a large number of parents (and other caring adults) in the school to help with many of the routine tasks in the junior and infant departments. Some help with specialist subjects like needlework and cookery. Others join in the supervision of small groups for Maths, Reading, Writing, etc. There are also the more mundane tasks of covering books and workcards, repairing books, sorting, cataloguing, clearing up, etc. Many parents bring in new ideas that can often be added to the work programme organised by the teaching staff. Topic work, in particular, may be enriched if parents are able to help with visits or provide information or contacts.

WOODSIDE SCHOOL PARENT/TEACHER ASSOCIATION (P.T.A.)

Every parent is automatically a member of the PTA and there is no annual subscription. The main purpose of the Association is to organise social and fund-raising events for the benefit of the school.

Each year a committee is elected to make decisions on behalf of the Association members. The committee consists of the Headteacher, who is President of the Association, the Chairman, Vice-chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, members of the teaching staff and a specified number of other parent members.

CONSULTATION WITH STAFF

There are many opportunities for parents to consult the Headteacher and staff about individual children or any other matter of educational relevance to the school and the pupils. It is often difficult for a member of staff to see parents during the day when school is in progress, but a convenient time is easily arranged if you have a particular problem that you wish to discuss.
