I would like to welcome you and your child to Woodside School. Choosing a primary school for your child is an important decision and I hope you will give me the opportunity (if you have not done so already) of showing you around the school and answering any questions you may have.

At Woodside School we believe in integrating modern technology with traditional values in your child’s education. We share your wish that your child achieves his/her full potential in English and mathematics, the sciences, the arts, in technology, in physical activities (competitive and non-competitive) and an understanding of and respect for spiritual and moral values. Information Technology skills are taught throughout the curriculum. We have two or more computers in every classroom and make full use of multimedia technology and controlled access to the Internet. We have a school uniform and school P.E. kit which we expect our pupils to wear and we regard firm discipline to be an essential part of a good education.

It is very important that we become partners in your child’s education. In order to do this we must be able to communicate easily and honestly and to help this to happen we:

hold monthly parents’ meetings
each class has a parent representative who attends a monthly meeting with the headteacher and the representatives of the other classes in order to discuss any issues which are concerning parents

enable access to the school governors
we hold an Annual Parents Meeting with the school governors which is the focal point of annual accountability to parents. The governors visit the school regularly and their responsibilities are published

publish regular newsletters
containing information on school events and issues of importance

have termly parent / teacher consultation evenings
where you will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with the class teacher

keep you fully informed about your child’s curriculum
by giving you a termly list of topics to be covered by each class, details of which can be seen in the Woodside School whole school curriculum plan

give you an annual written report
which details your child’s progress in all areas of the curriculum

We also encourage you to pop in to see your child’s teacher less formally after school if you have any worries or make an appointment to see your child’s teacher if you wish to discuss an issue that may take more than a few minutes.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the information in this prospectus or would like to visit the school.

John Grubb, Headteacher

A MESSAGE FROM MR R BUTLER,
CHAIRMAN OF THE GOVERNORS

Dear Parents

On behalf of the Governors I would like to welcome both you and your child to Woodside School.

It is the purpose of the school to provide the best possible education for your child and to encourage your child to achieve his or her full potential.

The Governors are fully committed to working with, and providing support to, the teaching staff in achieving these objectives. The importance of Primary School education is providing a solid foundation for the future development of your child cannot be overstressed.

In this prospectus you will see some of the care and detail that has gone into the preparation of the curriculum planning and policy statements. These all undergo regular review to ensure that they are relevant and in line with current thinking. The emphasis placed on the partnership between Parents and Teachers in the overall development of the children can be seen in the variety of opportunities offered for contact between the parents and the school. Parents are encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life. The constant improvement in the facilities of the school is in no small way attributable to the commitment and hard work of the Parent Teacher Association.

Under Mr Grubb’s guidance the school continues to grow from strength to strength, and I am confident that your decision to entrust the education of your child to the care of the Staff and Governors will be fully justified.

We look forward to you and your child joining Woodside. Please feel free to contact me or any other of the School Governors if you have any points you would like to discuss.

Yours sincerely

R G Butler

Chairman of Governors Summer 1997
