Course Objective(s):

• to understand the principles of good Web page design
• to take control of page layout
• to equip you with the skills required to produce attractive and functional Web pages
• to enable you to support pupils through a progression of Web authoring skills

It will be assumed that participants in this course have a basic familiarity with the creation of Web pages by some means. This course will use existing examples of good practice as a basis for building your expertise. Standards and practices that are current at the time of the course will be applied.

Basic ICT Skills - Preparing for the New Opportunities Fund

Course Objective(s):

• to introduce teachers to the fundamentals of using a computer
• to prepare teachers for the training they will shortly be receiving as part of the New Opportunities Fund initiatives
• to provide an overview of the use of computers with pupils, including aspects of the National Curriculum
• to place the use of the computer in appropriate contexts involving the Internet

This is a basic skills course and will be suitable for all teachers wishing to use the computer, perhaps for the first time. No knowledge of computing will be expected or required. Teachers will be given an opportunity to use basic computer applications, such as word processing as a way of understanding some of the tasks that ICT can facilitate both for professional use and for the classroom.

Using Clicker Plus/3, All My Words and Word Bar in the Primary Classroom

Course Objective(s):

• to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in the use of Clicker Plus/3, All My Words and Word Bar as ‘on screen’ concept keyboard and word lists
• to demonstrate and evaluate the cross curricular range of learning opportunities provided by Clicker Plus/3, All My Words and Word Bar particularly in English
• to demonstrate the use of Clicker Plus/3, All My Words and Word Bar as an aid to learning for pupils with learning difficulties

This course is intended for beginners in the use of Clicker Plus/3, All My Words and Word Bar although more experienced users may want to extend their skills. Course participants will:

• have the opportunity to evaluate demonstrated Clicker Plus/3, All My Words and Word Bar grids
• learn how it may enhance pupils’ learning across the curriculum in general and English in particular
• learn how to make and use Clicker Plus/3, All My Words and Word Bar grids of words/letters/pictures
• learn how to make and use multi-layers of Clicker Plus/3 grids
• have the opportunity to produce resources for use with their pupils, particularly those with learning difficulties

Using ICT to Enhance Literacy at Key Stage 1

Course Objective(s):

• to raise awareness of how ICT can support pupils’ learning during the Literacy Hour
• to enable participants to make their own resources

A repeat of last year’s successful course but amended to include updated software. It will be a combination of demonstrations and hands on based upon the multimedia PC. The course will look at the requirements of the Literacy Hour at Key Stage 1:

• relating specific uses of ICT to them
• specific programs based upon popular reading schemes
• use of programs such as Clicker, Clicker 3 and Word Pad for participants to produce their own resources

Course Objective(s):

• to raise awareness of how ICT may be used to support pupils’ learning in numeracy at Key Stage 1
• to raise participants’ ICT skills appropriate to the teaching of mathematics

This is a new course. It will be a combination of demonstrations and "hands-on" based upon the multimedia PC. The course will look at the requirements of teaching numeracy at Key Stage 1. It will include relating specific uses of ICT to them and producing a list of appropriate programs against specific mathematical skills.
