SETPOINT Northamptonshire
Introduction
The Northamptonshire SETPOINT will be the single point of contact to support the development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) agenda for the 5-18 age range. This is in response to the DTI and DfES rationale to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in all schools to all pupils.
The overall intended outcome is that:
"at least once in each key stage, every young person should have the opportunity as part of their education to participate in an appropriate structured STEM activity linking schools to business and the world of work."
Mission Statement
To enhance the economy, industry, culture and quality of life in Northamptonshire by: -
increasing appreciation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in schools and colleges
- improving their perception of Northamptonshire's science, technological engineering and manufacturing base through partnerships with local companies
- attracting young people into science, technological engineering and manufacturing by involvement in local and national initiatives.
Aims
The aims of the SETPOINT Northamptonshire will be:

to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities in schools and colleges in the county.
- to contribute to the increase in public awareness of the vital role which science, technology, engineering and mathematics play in society and the economy and of the importance of wealth creation.
- to provide an information centre for Northamptonshire's science, technology, engineering and mathematics based businesses, institutions and associations to:

support the work of the science, technology, engineering and mathematical departments in local schools and colleges' liaison and support activities.
- promote good practice in science, technology, engineering and mathematics teaching and learning.
- enable collaboration through a range of different activities.
Objectives
The objectives of the SETPOINT Northamptonshire will be:-
to increase the numbers of people gaining science and engineering related vocational/academic qualifications.
- to identify areas of local need and initiate appropriate action.
- to enhance the teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics related subjects.
