Monday 18th January

In Science we are planning an experiment to find out which soil drains water the fastest. Here is my planning:

Laurence:

Our question - Which soil drains the most water in the given time?

We Will Change - The soil (loam, clay and sand soils)

We Will Measure - The amount of water at the bottom of the jug

We Will Keep These Things The Same to Make our Test Fair - The funnel, Amount of water, Same size jug, The same amount of soil and the same place you put it.

We Will use These Things - Sandy soil, Loam soil, Clay soil,25cm tall jar, Funnel, a stop watch and 7cm of water.

Tuesday 19th January

Science: taking a closer look at rocks

Chalk: Colour-The colour is white.

Appearance-The appearance is dusty.

Texture-The texture is hard and sharp.

Limestone:Colour-The colour is grey and white.

Appearance-The appearance has got crystals in.

Texture-The texture is rough and hard.

Granite:Colour-The colour is orangy brown,a bit of black,white,silver and gold.

Appearance-The appearance is very crystaly and has mixed colours.

Texture-The texture is rough,hard and sharp.

Millstone Grit:Colour-The colour is orangy brown and bage.

Appearance-The appearance is hard and crystaly.

Texture-The texture is rough.

Wednesday 20th January

My name is Andrew Glover I am 5 years old .I am in class 11P to work with the Year 6 children. I have a brother called Ryan and a sister called Stacey.  

THURSDAY 21st JANUARY

My name is Carin Joffe, and I have come all the way from the United States to complete my student teaching course at St. Peter's School. I live in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and I have been at the University of Georgia for the past three and a half years. So far, I have really enjoyed my stay in Manchester and teaching at St. Peter's School. I have met some really nice and interesting people, and I look forward to the 9 weeks that I have left with Class 5.

Friday 22nd January

We have designed a survey to find out how often people use their cars and for what kinds of journeys. Our aim is to try and get people to take public transport once a week in order to lower pollution levels. This is the first step towards it. The next will be to write to our MP, Ian Stewart, to tell him what we have found out.
