Discipline Policy

We aim to promote an attitude of mutual respect and care for others built on an understanding of everyone's worth as an individual. Listed below are the "Saint Peter's School Rules". These rules were drawn up after consultation between staff, pupils and Governors. They have subsequently been communicated to the children in a manner which is appropriate to their age.

1. Be helpful, kind and polite to everybody.

2. Always do your best.

3. Move around the classroom, and the school, sensibly and quietly.

4. Look after school property and personal property.

5. Listen carefully and follow instructions.

Below is a list of the strategies which we use to encourage our children to behave well;

* Positive comment from the teacher to the child in private.

* Positive comment from the teacher to the child in front of class

* Special responsibility such as doing jobs around the school

* Good work sent to another teacher

* Class awards (such as merit stickers or house points)

* Good work shown at assembly

* Merit award at Good News assembly

Below is a list of sanctions which are used if children do not behave appropriately. They are not in a hierarchical order.

* Private warning from teacher

* Public warning from teacher

* Child withdrawn to another place in the classroom to work

* Child sent to another class to work (staff should keep a record of children sent to other classrooms)

* Child stays in during playtime/dinnertime to finish work

* Child is excluded from school trips

* Child is excluded from extra curricular activities

* Child sent to headteacher. (At this point the child's parents will usually be contacted).

A serious incident, or a series of incidents, involving poor behaviour may result in a child being excluded from school for a fixed period or permanently. This is the ultimate sanction, however, and would only be used in extreme cases.
