Downloading SBS Files
As you probably know, there are hundreds of files at Stewarton Bible School's web site.
Consequently, the zipped files created for downloading are fairly large.

Windows 95 & 98 Options ... (32 bit computers)
Click here for OPTION 1. (File: sbs777.exe ....... Last Updated: 9th July 2000)
This Option contains all the Stewarton Bible School's Sermon Notes, Bible Lessons, Vital Articles and Booklets; but not the 66 books of the Holy Bible.
The file is currently about 3mb in size. Estimated download time about 15 minutes.
For new files added to the site after the date shown above check the What's New file.
Before downloading:
- First make a directory (folder) called c:\sbs777
- Then click on Option 1 and when prompted, Save file sbs777.exe to the newly created directory c:\sbs777. Do not OPEN this file in your browser; just SAVE it to c:\sbs777 (You may, of course, Save it to another drive; but the instructions here assume you will save it to drive c:)
- Now go off-line and from your desktop Run file c:\sbs777\sbs777 -d Make sure you key a space and -d after the filename. This is important, because the -d switch ensures that the directory structures are maintained. The file will then extract/inflate and place all the files it contains in their relevant directories (folders).
- Then load your browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) and open file c:\sbs777\index.html
Click here for OPTION 2. Windows 95&98 (File: bible.exe)
This Option contains the 66 books of the Authorized King James Bible in HTML format; which means you'll need an Internet browser (i.e. Netscape or Explorer) to view them. The file bible.exe size is 1.6mb in size. Being the Holy Bible it obviously does not need to be updated. The only file within it which may periodically need updating is the User Guide; which you may - if you wish - download separately. But the Bible files, obviously, do not change. Estimated download time about 9 minutes.
Before downloading:
- First make a directory (folder) called c:\sbs777 and under this directory make a sub directory called bible. This directory's full path name will be c:\sbs777\bible
- Then click on Option 2 and when prompted, Save file bible.exe to the newly created directory c:\sbs777\bible. Do not OPEN this file in your browser; just SAVE it to c:\sbs777\bible (You may, of course, Save it to another drive; but the instructions here assume you will save it to drive c:)
- Now go off-line and from your desktop Run file c:\sbs777\bible\bible -d Make sure you key a space and -d after the filename. This is important, because the -d switch ensures that the directory structure is maintained. The file will then extract and place all the Bible files in the c:\sbs777\bible directory.
- Then load your browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) and open file c:\sbs777\bible\index.html
Click here for OPTION 3. (File: bibltext.exe)
This Option contains the 66 books of the Authorized King James Bible in TEXT format. You do not need an Internet browser to view text files. Text files may be opened by any Word Processor, where the Find, Copy and Paste facilities may be used to create Bible-based documents. The file bibltext.exe is 1.4mb in size. Being the Holy Bible it obviously does not need to be updated. Estimated download time about 8 minutes.
Before downloading:
- First make a directory (folder) called c:\sbs777 and under this directory make a sub directory called bible and under that a further sub-directory called text. This directory's full path name will then be c:\sbs777\bible\text
- Then click on Option 3 and when prompted, Save file bibltext.exe to the newly created directory c:\sbs777\bible\text. Do not OPEN this file in your browser; just SAVE it to c:\sbs777\bible\text (You may, of course, Save it to another drive; but the instructions here assume you will save it to drive c:)
- Now go off-line and from your desktop Run file c:\sbs777\bible\text\bibltext -d Make sure you key a space and -d after the filename. This is important, because the -d switch ensures that the directory structure is maintained. When Run, the file will inflate and place all the Bible Text files in the c:\sbs777\bible\text directory (folder).
- Then load your browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) and open file c:\sbs777\bible\text\index.html Alternatively you could load your Word Processor and open whichever Bible book you please; and then use its Find, Copy and Paste facilities to help create Bible-based documents. Bear in mind that the Bible files all have the suffix .txt The only file with the suffix .html is index.html which is included simply to allow you to also view the files with your browser.

NOTE
All the above Options may, of course, be saved to any drive other than c: and you need not maintain the SBS directory (folder) structure outlined above. But the html links within the files will work better if you place all the files on a single drive, whether c: d: or e:.
DOWNLOAD SPEEDS
This depends on modem speed, time of the day, band width and Internet traffic at the time. Using a Pentium 133mhz machine, I downloaded Option 1 (3mb) in 15 minutes. So do not be put off by the over-estimates some browsers give when first you click on a download option. If you pick the right time of the day (or night) when Internet traffic is low, you'll be surprised how quick a download can be.
TOO MUCH HASSLE?
If you find that downloading is proving too much of a problem, then take a look at our Free Disk Offer.
When requesting disks please let us know if you first attempted a download and experienced difficulty. We need to know of any problems whatsoever; so as to make downloading easier for future visitors to our site. Your help in this will be greatly appreciated. E-mail us right away: sbs777@rmplc.co.uk
Bear in mind that:
- By downloading files your privacy is absolutely assured. We do not even keep a count of how many visitors to our site.
- There are no follow-up charges for SBS publications, computer disks or downloaded files. Pass the word around.
- For permission to copy, see Copying SBS Files & Disks. and also No Copyright
- If you have downloaded a 16 bit Windows 3.1x Option (in which all the HTML files have the suffix .htm then when you copy them to a friend with, say, a 32 bit machine using Windows 95 or 98, he/she will need to rename all the .htm files giving them the suffix .html The reverse will apply if a Windows 95/98 user passed downloaded files to a Windows 3.1x user.
The PC .exe files mentioned in the above Download Options are all zipped with a program called PKZip. When downloaded to a PC they must be Unzipped by another PC program called PK Unzip; which is provided within the downloaded file. Unfortunately that PC Unzip program doesn't work on all Macintosh computers; which means that most MAC OS users cannot use the download files.
HTML Files
To overcome this problem Stewarton Bible School has created a CD.
The CD contains ALL the SBS web site files in an unzipped state, in the popular HTML format of the Internet. This means that the HTML files on the SBS CD, will be accessible by any computer which has a Web Browser (i.e. Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer etc.)
Portable Document Format (PDF)
The SBS CD also contains the same files in PDF format. PDF files can be read by any computer using a program called Acrobat Reader. This program is also provided on the SBS CD.
Now, armed with the SBS CD, all Windows PC and Macintosh users could access the SBS web site off-line using either:
- Their Internet Browsers
- Or the supplied program Acrobat Reader.
I am sure this news will be of special interest to Macintosh and UNIX users who have hitherto been unable to study SBS material off-line. To obtain a free copy of the SBS CD e-mail us at: sbs777@rmplc.co.uk giving your full mailing address:- Name, PO Box No, Street Name, Town, Zip Code and Country.
Allow 28 days for delivery. Remember there is no charge!
For new files added to the site after the CD date shown above check the What's New file.
Pass this good news on to your friends; because Time is Short and we believers still need to publish the Gospel to all the world! To be sure, the job is progressing; but there is still much to do.
Dedicated Labourers Urgently Needed!
May the Almighty bless you as you seek to learn and do His will.
I'll end here in Emmanuel's Name
