THE NURSERY

THE NURSERY

Following the opening of the Pre-Prep in September 1992 and the successful launch of the Nursery in September 1993 St George's College Junior School started to accept girls into the Nursery from September 1994.

The Nursery offers a flexible approach to the number of sessions children may attend from just morning or afternoon, to complete days. To gain the most out of the excellent nursery education on offer, those attending the Nursery are expected to come to at least three sessions a week, which may be increased as the year goes on.

The Nursery is equipped to the highest possible standards and has a very generous staffing commitment of one adult to every eight pupils. The Nursery aims to provide the basic foundations which can be built on by the Pre-Prep teachers so that pupils can move up, into the last four years of junior school education confident in the knowledge that they have mastered the necessary basic skills in all their subjects.

The Nursery introduces children to letter sounds and numbers; and promotes pencil control through drawing, tracing and colouring - eventually leading to correct letter formation. Co-ordination skills are developed through cutting, sticking and painting.

Each child is individually encouraged to develop at his or her own pace. The emotional and social adjustments necessary to cope with a new environment are given the highest priority, and by the end of their time in the Nursery the children are confident, happy, motivated, considerate towards others and eager to learn.

The Nursery is open to boys and girls who have reached their third birthday by the 1st September. Rising three year olds may be accepted for afternoon sessions only at the start of the term after they are two and a half years old.

Children entering the Nursery must fulfil the traditional requirement of St George's College Junior School by being baptised Christians and in addition they must be toilet trained before coming into the Nursery. We have found that comfortable track suit type tops and bottoms have proved to be ideal. Shoes should have Velcro fastenings.

The fees from September 1995 will be as follows:

5 Morning Sessions 9.00 - 12.00 £465 per term

3 Morning Sessions 9.00 - 12.00 £279 per term
