The Earth is in the Milky way galaxy.
Although the stars in the sky seem to be close they are quite separate
from us. The sun and almost all of the stars that we can see actually
belong to a single star system called the Milky way galaxy. Its shape is
similar to a pair of plates placed rim to rim, forming a flattened disc.
If we could see it from above, it would look like spiral of light slowly
spinning though space. It is so big that even if we could travel at the
speed of light, it would take 100,000 years to cross from one side to the
other. We do not know how many stars there are. There are lots of star
clouds and there is one giant star that is red. In the Milky way galaxy
there is no gravity. It takes 225 million years for the sun to orbit the Milky way.
The blue and white stars are only baby stars.
