Clothing
Clothing was extremely simple at the Agora; it made grunge look luxurious. There were only two basic types of clothing for men and women: Linen Chileans and wool cloaks.
Most garments were manufactured within the home for the family by the mother and daughters or by slaves. Clothing was available at the market, but it was expensive. A women's dress could cost as much as 1000 drachmai. To see the average pay wages click here.
Clothing styles often represented the origin of a person. Many soldiers who fought in the Delian League wore the standard military clothing of Athens, but they often added a helmet or other accessory from their homeland to show their loyalty of the city-state.
