II PRINCE YEARS (340-336)

At the age of 16 Alexander's days of school ended and he assumed Lieutenancy of the Realm when Philip was away at war. However, he retained an interest in medicine and even prescribed medicine and doses to his friends. During a leave by Philip a northern tribe, the Maidoi, revolted and Alexander defeated them and planted a city, Alexandropolis, in its place. At about the age of 17 Philip gave Alexander the honor of leading his attacking wing at the battle of Chaeronea in the war against allied Thebes, Athens, Megara, Corinth and Achaia. This would be his first great victory in battle.
