Apollo was the son of Zeus and
Leto who coupled as quails. Hera tied Leto, but
Leto managed to escape to the island of Delos to give birth. He has a twin
sister named Artemis.
Apollo never married, but had many relationships. Most
notably, Apollo was known for being the first god to romance someone of
the same sex. This person was named Hyacinthus, a young Spartan. At the
time, others were also interested in this same person. One suitor was the
West Wind. When it was apparent that Apollo was going to win the courtship,
the West Wind blew back a discus that Hyacinthus had just thrown. The discus
slammed into his skull killing him instantly. Where the blood spilled onto
the ground, there sprouted flowers named after him.
Apollo also was the god whom led the revolt against Zeus. While serving his one year of servitude, with the help of Poseidon and Aeacus, he built the wall surrounding the city of Troy.
