Athene was the daughter of Metis and Zeus. She sprang from Zeus' head fully armed. Athene became her father's favorite child. So much that he let her use his shield and lightning bolts as weapons.

Athene had a friend named Pallas. One day while sparring with spears, Athene accidentally killed her friend. As a gesture of remorse, Athene put Pallas in front of her own name. That is why she is sometimes referred to as Pallas Athene.
